Whether it felt like a blink or felt like your kids never actually left the house, school starts back tomorrow across Pearland.

That means alarms are coming back, traffic is about to spike, and thousands of kids are heading back into classrooms all at once.

By the numbers, Pearland Independent School District serves about 21,000 students across more than 20 campuses. Pearland High School alone enrolls roughly 3,400 students, while Glenda Dawson High School serves around 2,500. That’s a lot of backpacks, buses, and morning drop offs hitting the roads at the same time.

Expect More Traffic Tomorrow Morning

If your commute has felt lighter the last couple of weeks, that changes tomorrow.

School traffic returns in full, especially around elementary campuses and major roads (518/35/etc). Expect longer lines at drop off, buses stopping more frequently, and heavier congestion between about 6:45 and 8:15 a.m.

School zones are active again starting tomorrow. Reduced speed limits are back in effect, and officers will be watching. Please slow down, watch for crossing kids, and give yourself extra time. A few minutes saved is never worth the risk.

Let’s Talk About Sleep Schedules

Most parents already know this, but it still sneaks up every year.

Late nights. Sleeping in. Screens stretching longer than planned. For a lot of kids, sleep schedules are probably a little rough right now.

Tonight is the reset night.

-Set alarms before bed. -Charge devices outside bedrooms if you can. -Lay out clothes and backpacks now so tomorrow morning doesn’t feel rushed.

Even a small adjustment helps that first day feel less overwhelming.

A Fast, Realistic Back to School Breakfast

No one is making a full breakfast spread on the first morning back, and that’s okay. The goal is quick and steady energy.

  • Some easy options that work:
  • - Greek yogurt with granola and fruit
  • - Peanut butter toast with a banana
  • - Scrambled eggs in the microwave
  • - Apple slices with string cheese
  • - A simple smoothie poured into a travel cup
  • - Starbucks or Kolaches :)

It doesn’t have to be fancy. Something in the tank is better than nothing.

One Last Reminder

Set the alarms tonight. Leave earlier than usual. Slow down in school zones. Be patient with each other tomorrow morning.

It’s the first day back for a lot of families, and everyone is adjusting at the same time.

Welcome back to the routine, Pearland. Let’s make it a safe start.
