Barcenas Mexican Restaurant (The Original) is a family-owned and operated restaurant founded in June of 1998 by Homero and Josie Barcenas, lifelong residents of Pearland, Texas. What began in Friendswood as Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican cuisine, paired with genuine hospitality, has grown into a respected family restaurant group serving communities throughout the Bay Area.
Today, the Barcenas family operates multiple locations under the name Barcenas Mexican Grill, including Pearland (opened May 2024), Barcenas Mexican Grill, La Marque (serving the community for 17 years), and the group’s first franchise location, Barcenas Mexican Grill at Marina Bay in League City, owned and operated by longtime head cook Victor Garcia, a 26 year member of the Barcenas family team, and his wife, Nelly. Each location reflects the same commitment to quality, consistency, and community.
Chef Homero Barcenas, founder and executive chef, is the creator of every Barcenas recipe and oversees all kitchen operations, culinary standards, and quality control. His greatest passion is hearing from guests who enjoy his meals and knowing that his food brings families together, making the restaurant business a true labor of love.
Josie Barcenas manages the front of the house and oversees daily operations, staffing, and guest experience. She is highly active on social media and personally responds to guest comments, messages, and concerns. The most rewarding part of the restaurant for Josie is mingling with guests and getting to know them personally, believing that genuine connection is at the heart of hospitality. Known for being extremely proactive, Josie values open communication and hands-on engagement as essential to building trust and long-lasting relationships within the community.
The Barcenas children play an active role in the continued success of the family business. Laura and Roberto manage the Pearland location, while Jessica and Michael manage at the La Marque restaurant. Valerie and Joshua lead the group’s Marketing and Media efforts, ensuring the Barcenas brand remains connected and engaged both in-house and online.
