SEVERE STORMS HIT PEARLAND SATURDAY NIGHT

Heavy rain and strong winds moved through Pearland and much of Southeast Texas Saturday evening into the night. Thunderstorms dumped rain, produced gusty winds, and prompted multiple weather alerts for our area.

TORNADO WARNINGS ISSUED; TORNADO NOT CONFIRMED The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for parts of Brazoria, Harris, and Galveston counties Saturday night, including areas near Pearland and the Green Tee community. Those warnings reflected an increased risk for tornadoes as the storm line passed.

At this time, no official tornado touchdown has been confirmed in the Green Tee community or elsewhere in Pearland. Storm damage reports are still under review. While some residents saw damage to trees, fences, and roofing materials, much of that is consistent with straight-line wind damage from a powerful thunderstorm.

WHAT RESIDENTS EXPERIENCED • Heavy downpours and lightning. • Strong wind gusts bent trees and caused debris. • Localized yard and structural damage reported. • Some streets experienced minor flooding from heavy rainfall.

WHY THIS MATTERS Tornado warnings means conditions could produce a tornado. It does not automatically mean one occurred. Confirmation typically comes after National Weather Service ground surveys, which are still ongoing.
